It happened on OneFM 94.0fm’s Life Matters on the 30th August 2017.
Steve Hughes was presenting a show on ‘Getting your body ready for summer’ and had with him in the studio, JP Steyl from HIIT Fitness and Gillian and Chantelle from Girlz&Guyz Beauty, both based in the Table View area.
During this otherwise peaceful and entertaining show, JP and the ladies ganged up on Steve and challenged him to an 8 week weight-loss challenge incorporating a strict diet and exercise regime.
Steve (eventually) agreed to accept the challenge on the grounds that he would ‘swop’ his hard earned pounds of fat in exchange for sponsorship that would go to a worthwhile charity. For every pound of fat that Steve loses, people will pledge an amount towards one of the charities chosen.
Let’s face it, that much pain and torture shouldn’t be in vain.
This initiative was proudly founded by psychiatrist Renata Schoeman (Goldilocks) and entrepreneur/athlete Nic de Beer (The Bear) and offers South Africa’s first non-profit ADHD screening and early intervention services in underprivileged communities.
GB4ADHD aims to initially screen 500 children per month (of the estimated 200 000 in the Western Cape who currently have no access to such services) with plans to broaden the reach nationally.
